Learn French Online: A Realistic A1 to B2 Roadmap
· 7 min read
How long it really takes to reach conversational French, what to study at each level, and how to prepare for DELF exams.
Most motivated learners reach A2 in about four months of consistent study and B1 within a year. The variable is not talent — it is weekly speaking hours.
At A1, prioritise pronunciation and the present tense. At A2, add past tenses and everyday functional language. At B1, shift to opinion, comparison and narration.
DELF preparation should start one level below your target: the exam rewards structure and clarity more than complex grammar.
Pair every grammar unit with a speaking task the same week, or the rule stays theoretical.
